The foundations of good txakoli are ingrained in the soil

Visit the Virgen de Lorea Winery.

In the late 17th century, in the neighbourhood La Flor de Otxaran, the Laiseka family, ancestors of the present owner, already elaborated this special wine.

Juan Laiseka de las Rozas, a descendant of the aforementioned, and his wife, Gregoria de Carral Bollain, preserved the tradition during the second half of the 18th century in their family home.

At that time there were many settlements in which cider and txakoli used to be produced, both for sale and personal consumption. Later on, in the early 20th century, Cándida Laiseka de Carral, daughter of Juan Laiseka, and her husband, Agustín Goikoetxea Torresagasti, built a house where he set a cellar, located in what is now the tasting room of the current complex.

Today, Bodegas Virgen de Lorea produces two brands of txakoli: Aretxaga and Señorío de Otxaran, in both white and red varieties, and a kind of txakoli-orujo, a highly innovative product.
