A secret hidden for centuries

Karrantza

During the repair works of the church of San Andrés de Biañez, in Karrantza, an eighteenth-century wooden altarpiece had to be disassembled. Then a fabulous 16th-century "fresco" emerged that occupied the entire wall and had remained hidden for centuries.

The Renaissance paintings illustrate the Passion of Christ, the Martyrdom of St. Andrew and the Last Supper. They can be seen under reservation on a guided tour that also focuses on the historical relevance of the Indians, enriched neighbors in the Americas and who populated the Karrantza Valley with its luxurious mansions.
