Iron has been ingrained in the DNA of Enkarterri from time immemorial. The Romans were well aware of its mineral riches of the region, and blacksmiths were admired and much sought-after in the Middle Ages. The town of Muskiz has kept the flame of El Pobal Forge burning since the 16^th century.
